4 Keys to Long Term Weight Loss Results

At some point in time, more often than not, you’ve hit a certain point in your life where you want to lose weight.  You may be the type of person that comes to this point in your life more than once.  You also may be someone that struggles with achieving this task.  You set your goals.  And you’re off to a good start.  Then BAM...struggle bus.  You aren’t losing weight or feeling better any more.  And you take a nice swan dive off the wagon.

I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way.

You don’t have to stay on this relentless cycle of up, down, and back around.  And you most certainly can lose the weight that you want to lose and keep it off.  But it’s going to take more than just setting a “I want to lose 3 lbs” (hello Mean Girls reference) kind of a goal.

Here’s the thing.  Reaching your goals is 100% possible.  And it can even be done quickly.  But what is it going to take to maintain that weight loss after it’s all said and done?  The simple answer is a more permanent mindset and lifestyle shift that is necessary to maintain your results.  I’m going to show you the 4 key components to maintain your weight loss results.

Changing Habits

This one should come pretty easy to you.  Afterall, you just changed your habits to be able to lose weight, right?  You changed the way you eat.  And you changed the amount of movement you do.  It’s SO important to maintain these changes to be able to maintain your weight loss results.  Don’t fall back into old habits and routines that will lead to self sabotage.  Maintain the changes you made during your weight loss journey.

Personalizing your Program

Every person is different in what works for them to lose weight.  And every person is different is what it takes to maintain their weight loss results.  It’s important to personalize your program for what works for YOU.  Don’t worry about what Karen down the street is doing.  What works for her may not necessarily work for you.  So stay in your lane, don’t veer off your path, find out what works for you, AND MAKE LIKE GLUE AND STICK TO IT!

Making Yourself a Non-Negotiable

Okay… are you sitting down? Because this one is a big one.  And it’s definitely one that a lot of people, especially women, have a problem with.  You have to put yourself first and make the time to take care of yourself.  As cliche as it sounds, you really can’t pour from an empty cup.  We all have to make appointments and meetings for various things in our life.  And typically, we don’t like to miss those appointments or meetings.  So why are you so content on missing an appointment to take care of yourself?  Don’t be that person.

Your time to work on you is non-negotiable.  And it could come in many different forms.  It could come in time that you take for personal development such as meditation or reading.  And it could come in the form of time you spend in the gym.  It can also come in the form of ways you decompress at the end of the day to manage your stress level.  Whatever it is… it is non-negotiable.  END. OF. STORY.

Being Forgiving of Yourself

Last, but definitely not least, give yourself some grace.  There are going to be times that you fall short.  Your kid may be sick or you may have a big project due at work.  We all fall short at some point in time.  The important thing to remember here is to extend yourself the same amount of grace you would extend to your best friend.  It’s okay to fall short, but it’s not okay to unpack your bags and live there.  Don’t screw up all the hard work you have already accomplished because you fell short one day.

While I’m sure there are many other great keys to maintaining your weight loss results long term, these are a few things that I feel are super important.  You have already done the hard work, don’t throw that away. Follow these 4 keys to maintain your weight loss results.
